红包里的祝福

过年guò nián的de时候shí hou，长辈zhǎng bèi会huì给gěi小xiǎo孩子hái zi红包hóng bāo，红包hóng bāo里lǐ有yǒu压岁钱yā suì qián。

At New Year, elders give children red envelopes holding lucky money.

传说chuán shuō以前yǐ qián有yǒu个gè叫jiào「祟suì」的de小xiǎo妖怪yāo guài，大dà年nián三sān十shí晚上wǎn shang出来chū lái吓xià孩子hái zi。

Legend tells of a little demon called Sui who came out on New Year's Eve to frighten children.

有yǒu位wèi老人lǎo rén用yòng红hóng纸zhǐ包bāo了le八bā枚méi铜tóng钱qián放fàng在zài孩子hái zi枕zhěn边biān。妖怪yāo guài一yì来lái，铜tóng钱qián发光fā guāng，把bǎ它tā吓xià跑pǎo了le。

An old man wrapped eight coins in red paper by a child's pillow. When the demon came, the coins glowed and scared it off.

从此cóng cǐ过年guò nián就jiù有yǒu了le红包hóng bāo。红色hóng sè在zài中国zhōng guó是shì吉祥jí xiáng的de颜色yán sè，红包hóng bāo装zhuāng的de是shì长辈zhǎng bèi的de爱ài。

That is how the red envelope began. Red is a lucky color in China, and inside the envelope is an elder's love.
