The pattern

V + result (+ O)
  • A result complement follows the verb and reports the outcome: 吃完 'eat-finish' = finish eating, 看懂 'read-understand' = understand on reading, 写错 'write-wrong' = write incorrectly.
  • Common results: 完 finished · 懂 understood · 见 perceived (看见/听见) · 对 right · 错 wrong · 到 achieved (找到/买到) · 住 held/stopped (记住/站住).
