Different wording The two terms share 网 in their simplified forms but are different words. In Taiwan the standard term is 網際網路; on the Mainland it is 互联网 - both point at “the internet”.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Education dictionaries record 網際網路、互聯網 for this concept. The Mainland standard is among them - the difference is which form each side makes the default.
互联网 is HSK 3 vocabulary on the HSK 3.0 list.
