Preferred written form The two preferred forms differ by a single character. In Taiwan the standard term is 訊息; on the Mainland it is 消息 - both point at “information”.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Education dictionaries record 訊息、消息 for this concept. The Mainland standard is among them - the difference is which form each side makes the default.
消息 is HSK 3 vocabulary on the HSK 3.0 list.
