塞翁失马

长城cháng chéng边biān上shàng住zhù着zhuó一yī个gè老人lǎo rén，他tā养yǎng了liǎo一yī匹pǐ马mǎ。

By the Great Wall lived an old man who kept a horse.

一yī天tiān，马mǎ跑pǎo到dào北方běi fāng去qù了liǎo。邻居lín jū都dōu来lái安慰ān wèi他tā，他tā说shuō：这zhè也许yě xǔ是shì好事hǎo shì。

One day the horse ran off north. Neighbors came to comfort him; he said: perhaps this is a blessing.

几jǐ个gè月yuè后hòu，那nà匹pǐ马mǎ回来huí lai了liǎo，还huán带dài回来huí lai一yī匹pǐ好hào马mǎ。邻居lín jū都dōu来lái祝贺zhù hè他tā。

Months later the horse returned, bringing back a fine stallion. The neighbors came to congratulate him.

他tā的de儿子ér zi骑qí马mǎ，从cóng马上mǎ shàng摔shuāi下来xià lai，腿tuǐ断duàn了liǎo。邻居lín jū又yòu来lái安慰ān wèi他tā。

His son rode the horse, fell off, and broke his leg. The neighbors came to comfort him again.

一yī年nián后hòu，打仗dǎ zhàng了liǎo，很hěn多年duō nián轻qīng人rén都dōu死sǐ了liǎo，他tā的de儿子ér zi因为yīn wèi腿tuǐ坏huài了liǎo，没有méi yǒu去qù。

A year later war broke out and many young men died; his son was spared because of his bad leg.

好事hǎo shì和hé坏事huài shì，常常cháng cháng会huì互相hù xiāng变化biàn huà，遇到yù dào坏事huài shì，不必bù bì太tài难过nán guò。

Good luck and bad luck often turn into each other; when bad luck comes, do not grieve too much.
