画蛇添足

几jǐ个人gè rén得到dé dào一yī壶hú酒jǐu，可是kě shì酒jǐu只zhī够gòu一yī个人gè rén喝hē。

Several men received a pot of wine, but there was only enough for one.

大家dà jiā决定jué dìng：每měi个人gè rén在zài地上dì shang画huà一yī条tiáo蛇shé，谁shéi先xiān画huà完wán，酒jǐu就jìu给gěi谁shéi。

They decided: each draws a snake on the ground; whoever finishes first gets the wine.

有yǒu一yī个人gè rén画huà得děi很hěn快kuài，他tā看kān别人bié ren都dōu很hěn慢màn，就jìu说shuō：我wǒ还huán能néng给gěi蛇shé画huà脚jiǎo！

One man drew fast. Seeing the others still slow, he said: I can even add feet to my snake!

他tā正在zhèng zài画huà脚jiǎo的de时候shí hou，另lìng一yī个人gè rén画huà完了wán le，把bǎ酒jǐu拿ná了liǎo过去guò qù。

While he was drawing feet, another man finished and took the wine.

那nà个人gè rén说shuō：蛇shé本来běn lái没有méi yǒu脚jiǎo，你nǐ画huà了liǎo脚jiǎo，就jìu不bù是shì蛇shé了liǎo。

That man said: snakes have no feet; with feet drawn on, it is no longer a snake.
