天地tiān dì玄xuán黄huáng，宇宙yǔ zhòu洪hóng荒huāng。

Heaven dark, earth yellow; the cosmos vast and formless.

日rì月yuè盈yíng昃zè，辰chén宿sù列liè张zhāng。

Sun and moon wax and wane; stars and constellations are arrayed.

寒hán来lái暑shǔ往wǎng，秋qiū收shōu冬dōng藏cáng。闰rùn余yú成chéng岁suì，律lǜ吕lǚ调diào阳yáng。

Cold comes, heat goes; harvest in autumn, store in winter — the leap remainder makes the year, and the pitch-pipes set the seasons.
