燕子妈妈笑了

妈妈mā ma让ràng小xiǎo燕子yàn zi去qù看kān冬dōng瓜guā和hé茄子qié zi有yǒu什么shén me不bù一样yī yàng。

Mother asked Little Swallow to look at how a winter melon and an eggplant differ.

小xiǎo燕子yàn zi第dì一yī次cì回来huí lai说shuō：他们tā men都dōu是shì菜cài。妈妈mā ma说shuō：你nǐ再zài去qù看看kàn kan。

The first time he came back and said: they're both vegetables. Go look again, said Mother.

第dì二èr次cì，小xiǎo燕子yàn zi说shuō：冬dōng瓜guā大dà，茄子qié zi小xiǎo。妈妈mā ma说shuō：很hěn好hào，再zài去qù看kān一yī次cì。

The second time he said: the winter melon is big, the eggplant is small. Good, look once more.

第dì三sān次cì，小xiǎo燕子yàn zi说shuō：冬dōng瓜guā是shì绿lǜ的de，茄子qié zi是shì紫zǐ的de。妈妈mā ma还是hái shi让ràng它tā再zài看kān。

The third time he said: the melon is green, the eggplant is purple. Mother sent him back again.

第dì四sì次cì，小xiǎo燕子yàn zi说shuō：冬dōng瓜guā的de皮pí上shàng有yǒu细xì毛máo，茄子qié zi的de柄bǐng上shàng有yǒu小xiǎo刺cì！妈妈mā ma笑xiào了liǎo。

The fourth time he cried: the melon's skin has fine hairs, and the eggplant's stem has little thorns! Mother smiled.

只有zhǐ yǒu认真rèn zhēn、仔细zǐ xì地dì观察guān chá，才能cái néng发现fā xiàn别人bié ren看kān不到bù dào的de东西dōng xi。

Only careful, patient observation reveals what others cannot see.
