三个和尚

一yī个gè和尚hé shang挑tiǎo水shuǐ喝hē，天天tiān tiān有yǒu水shuǐ吃chī。

One monk carried water — he drank every day.

来lái了liǎo第dì二èr个gè和尚hé shang，两liǎng个人gè rén抬tái水shuǐ喝hē，也yě过guo得děi去qù。

A second monk came; they shared the carrying and did fine.

来lái了liǎo第dì三sān个gè和尚hé shang，谁shéi都dōu想xiǎng去qù挑tiǎo水shuǐ，谁shéi都dōu不bù想xiǎng自己zì jǐ去qù，三sān个人gè rén就jìu一直yī zhí等děng。

A third came — each waited for the others to fetch, so nobody went.

庙miào里lǐ着火zháo huǒ的de那nà天tiān，三sān个gè和尚hé shang都dōu抢qiǎng着zhuó去qù打dǎ水shuǐ了liǎo。——人rén多duō了liǎo反倒fǎn dào没méi水shuǐ喝hē，合作hé zuò才cái解渴jiě kě。

The day the temple caught fire, all three raced for water. More monks, less water — only cooperation quenches thirst.
